This coveted piece of property rests on a slope over the roofs of Munich, and had already been almost fully developed with a residence and five garages at the beginning of the planning phase. The owners desire for an additional apartment resulted in a plan to build the structure above the existing garages on the housing block. The new addition had to contrast with the existing residential structure and assume the appearance of a separate home. The façade material needed to enhance this individuality visually and create a focal point on the street, which otherwise consists entirely of single structures built in the 1950s.The façade of the apartment, which appears to rest upon the roof of the garage, is clad in TECU® Patina brand industrially pre-patinated, angle seam copper sheeting. Particular attention was paid to aligning the horizontal angle seams with the window openings, breast and parapet heights. This resulted in seams that encircle the whole building without any projections and define the height of the windows and doors perfectly. Counterbalancing the green façade, the stained red larch window elements and garage doors generate an intriguing chromatic tension.
