DER TECU® ARCHITECTURE AWARD 2002
PROJECT AWARD FOR STUDENTS B

Sea bridge with restaurant, waiting room and ticket office, Heiligendamm, D

Winner
Jörg Hehne, Karin Bierlich, Freiburg, D

Material
TECU®
Patina

This project deals with the seaside city of Heiligendamm, founded in 1793. With a new sea bridge, it adds a modern accent to the mainly classicist surounding. The basic concept is the universal form of a pier with a boathouse, simply expanded to a much larger scale. The bridge is made of wooden planks lying on the water like a long carpet.
It is supported with a minimal steel foundation. The building at the end of this bridge symbolizes a simple fisherman’s hut with its archaic form. It contains a fish restaurant and a ticket office for the ferries that operate here. The building is almost entirely clad in TECU® prepatinated copper which makes it look like a green jewel at the end of a long chain.
