Munipical libary
The project aims at being rational.; a strict response to a clear brief, enclosed in a square plan. A simple volume opening generously onto the park.
- Lending and consultations areas laid out around an atrium
- Open plateaux articulated by ramps
- Offices housed in the attic level, clad in copper sheet.
But here was also the neighbouring Tree, the new path, the old street, the rural past… so the project filled out by integrating these things, which opened the way to new possibilities to enrich the strictness of the square plan, opening windows onto other realities. The defensive square opened up, crossed from one side to the other, openend to the Tree, to the park and to a visual link with the old buildings too.
Materials accompany this insertion : conrete, serpentine (green Italian stone), sheet copper – blending into the park, in time they will take on a patina.
The same materials recur in the interior in dialogue with the parquet floor and wooden furnishings.
A piece of artwork, commissioned from artist Karine Darriaut, signals the public character of the facility. It is a momumental checkerboard made up of sheets of copper etched and oxidized, mounted on the main elevation that faces towards town.
